Ralph Edward "Tom" Lovejoy, 79, of Hamlin
Ralph Edward "Tom" Lovejoy, 79, of Hamlin passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, in St. Mary's Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Palermo and was a son of the late Hobert and Elwa Hill Lovejoy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Lovejoy, Harold "Bill" Lovejoy and Phyllis Gail Lovejoy.
Throughout his life he served as a local businessman, Lincoln County sheriff, school bus driver and realtor. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member and officer of American Legion Post 111, Hamlin.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Irma Johnson Lovejoy; children, Ralph Edward (Carolyn) Lovejoy II of Charlotte, N.C., Beth (John) Midkiff of Martinsburg, Tessa (Jeff) Cooper of Hamlin and Lee Ann (Noah) Bills of Salt Rock; grandchildren, Heather (Lucas) McCall of Richmond, Va., John Bradley Midkiff of Martinsburg, Lynn and Katherine Lovejoy of Charlotte, N.C., Mackenzie and Gavin Cooper of Hamlin and Ethan Bills of Salt Rock; unborn grandson, Dalton Bills; siblings, Iva Dean (George) Cook and Anna Marie Hunt of Scott Depot, Mary Lou (Jerry) Jones of Clarksburg and Sharrell (Lillian) Lovejoy of Hamlin; and a very special friend of the family, Debbie Workman.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Oct. 11, in Lovejoy Cemetery, Palermo, by American Legion Post 111, Hamlin.
Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, was in charge of arrangements.
