NAOMI SMITH ADAMS

Naomi Smith Adams, 65, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, of Huntington, W.Va., left her earthly family Thursday, May 13, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, to be reunited with her loved ones that went before. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with Rev. Ray Miller officiating. Burial followed in Warrick Cemetery, Ranger, W.Va. Naomi was born Jan. 2, 1945, the daughter of the late Nathan Fletcher Smith and Delpha Clay Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Dale Keith Adams; and brother, Garry Lee Smith. She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Roy Lee Adams; two daughters, Bonnie (Keith) Simpkins and Michelle (Don) Ramey; her two grandchildren she loved more than life, Brittany (Corey) Adkins and Brennan Keith Simpkins; one sister, Lillian (James) Midkiff; and a host of loved ones and friends. She will be sadly missed by her two parrots, Taco and Tinkerbell.

Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. The family requests donations are made to Hospice of Huntington. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

"DECKER" ADKINS

Arthur Jay "Decker" Adkins, 72, of Hamlin, W.Va., husband of Janet Collins Adkins, died Sunday, May 16, 2010.

He was a retired foreman in the bridge department of West Virginia Department of Highways.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, W.Va.; burial at Fairview Memory Gardens, Hamlin.

JEREMY SCOTT COOK

Jeremy Scott Cook, 22, of Hurricane passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 in Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 21, 2010 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Chad Clark officiating.

Burial followed in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

He was born January 16, 1988 in Leominster, MA.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, James and Jessica Cook of Culloden; mother and stepfather, Alisa and Jim Sizemore of Hurricane; three brothers, Shawn Tyler Cook of Hurricane, Tanner Cook of St. Albans and Christian Casto of Culloden; two sisters, Morgan Cook of St. Albans and Brooklyn Sizemore of Hurricane; paternal grandparents, Rich and Sue Bishop of Hurricane; maternal grandparents, Brenda Lowther of Hurricane and David Powell and his wife, Nancy of Milton; three aunts, Margie Stepanski, Melodie McLane and Misty Bailey; one uncle, Scott Lowther and very special friend, Raven Cook.

ARIE M. DAVIS

Arie M. Davis, 85, of Milton passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 17, 2010, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Ronnie Long officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Milton.

He was born May 20, 1924, a son of the late Benjamin and Eva Waugh Davis.

He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Davis retired from Barboursville Clay after 35 years of employment and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Loreda Ashworth Davis; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Rose of Huntington; one grandson, Todd Wallace of Barboursville; one sister, Opal Argabrite; three stepsons, Dale (Jeanne) Ashworth of Milton, Kendal (Linda) Ashworth of Ashton and Sherman and Karen Ashworth of Frazier's Bottom; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Terry) Yates of Milton and Carolyn Elkins of Huntington; sister-in-law, Lorene (Martin) Doss of Nitro; and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

ELFRIEDE MURPHY

Elfriede Murphy, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., departed this life on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Madison Park Nursing Home in Huntington, W.Va., after a short illness.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville.

Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

She was born May 2, 1926, in Germany, a daughter of the late Adolf and Elsi Hollestine.

She came to the United Stated in 1962 after the death of her husband, Lloyd Murphy of Guyandotte. She retired from St. Mary's Hospital, where she worked for 27 years.

She leaves behind a daughter, Pamela Gilfilen and her fiancé, Daniel Dillon of Columbus, Ohio; one granddaughter, Kristi Pollard and her husband, Jody of Vinton, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Tori and Autumn of Vinton, Va.; one grandson, Stephen Payton and his wife, Tammy of Columbus, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Mckinzie Rae and Allen James "A. J." of Waverly, Ohio, and Tyler and Lindsey of Columbus, Ohio. She also leaves behind a brother, Helmut Hollestien of Germany; and a sister, Lisa Groff of Bethlehem, Pa.

A special thanks to all who cared for my mother over the past few months and special thanks to her dear friends, Monika and Gesila, who helped us a lot and who were her friends for many years.

PEARL RAMEY NELSON

Pearl Ramey Nelson, 86, of Barboursville, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at her residence.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with the Rev. Vernon Perry.

Burial followed in Ramey Cemetery.

She was born August 18, 1923, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Stephen J. and Clara Dillon Ramey.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Nelson; two twin great-grandchildren, Joseph and Francine Smith; son-in-law, Charles Anthony Markin Jr.; two sisters, Nellie Ramey Anderson and Bessie Ramey Evans; three brothers, Ancil, Arthur, and Azel Ramey.

Her experience and baptism was December 14, 1941. She was a member of Bethlehem United Baptist Church Racoon Creek, Branchland.

She is survived by two lovely daughters that meant everything to their mother, Clara Jean Markin and Wanda Kay Billups; four loving grandchildren, Charles "Tony" Markin III and wife, Katrina, Teresa Ann Smith and husband, Gary, Michael Shawn Billups and wife, Tisha, Deanna Kay Shepard and husband, Jerry; eight great-granddaughters, Candance Pearl Shepard, Kaydee Jean Shepard, Kimberly Faye Shepard, Lucinda Mae Smith, Kayla Smith, Jenna Smith, Clara Elizabeth Shepard expected to join the family in September, Breanne Nicole Thompson and Alexa Renee Billups; two sisters, Lillian Thomas and Juanita Meadows; one brother, Alfred Ramey and wife, Joyce; sister-in-law, Fearldine Ramey; many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

The family would especially like to thank her niece Francis Morrison for her special love and support.

Pearl was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She loved all the children dearly, especially those who were with her daily, everyone loved her unconditionally, even Sammy the cat.

She surely will be missed by all. MaMa Pearl we all love you.

EMERSON G. PEARSON

Emerson G. Pearson, 84, of Barboursville, W.Va., died late Saturday evening, May 15, 2010, at his residence in the arms of his family.

He was born May 21, 1925, in West Hamlin, W.Va., a son of the late Winfield Scott Pearson and Hattie Shelton Pearson.

He was preceded in death by two infant sisters, his brother, W. Scott Pearson and his sisters, Reva Adkins and Norinne Marcum.

He was a loving family man and friend. A career railroader, he retired from CSX Transportation with service spanning five decades.

He was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater with the 8th Army Air Corp.

He was a member of the Minerva Lodge, No. 13, A.F. & A.M., and a loyal member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Barboursville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ouida Harbour Pearson; one son, Kenneth L. Pearson and his wife, Sandra, and one grandson, Dr. Kenneth Andrew Pearson, all of Barboursville.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Judy Fisher. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery.

Wallace Funeral Home assisted the Pearson family.

Rickey Leroy Ramey, 51, of Salt Rock, died Sunday, May 2, 2010.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 6, at Harts Tabernacle Church, Harts, W.Va.; burial at Farley Cemetery.

Caroline R. "Gram" Spence, 83, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at her residence.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Kevin Shull. Burial followed in Spence Cemetery.

She was born July 3, 1926, in Milton, a daughter of the late William E. and Mary Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lewis "Woot" Spence; one daughter, Olga Layne; one son, James Lewis Spence; sister, Emogene Dick and brother, Harmon Smith and an infant brother.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Joe Wolowinski, of Milton; son and daughter-in-law, William and Patricia Spence of Poca; special daughter-in-law, Barbara Sue Spence; one sister, Beatrice Shumaker of Barboursville, and one brother, Brett Smith of Ona; grandchildren, Jacob and Jesse Wolowinski, Alicia Smith, Jamie Donsbach, Ronda Woodrum, Delta Vance, who gave "Gram" special care in her last days of her life, and Ernie Spence; 12 great-grandchildren and special friends, Chauncy Henry and Tillie Applegate.

KATHRYN "KATIE" "PHOEBE ANN" LUNSFORD STEWART

Kathryn "Katie" "Phoebe Ann" Lunsford Stewart, 72, of Milton, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, at her home.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Ball Cemetery, Milton, with the Rev. Chad Clark officiating.

She was born November 6, 1937 in Milton, a daughter of the late Gordon and Leila Ball Lunsford.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Lunsford.

Mrs. Stewart was a retired Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Vinson Stewart; one daughter and son-in-law, LeAnne and Rodman Lowe; two grandsons, Hayden and Dylan Lowe; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Penny Lunsford and Anthony "Tony" and Sharon Lunsford, all of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.

VINSON THODA STEWART

Vinson Thoda Stewart, 77, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Union Baptist Church, Milton, with Pastor Brent Beckett officiating.

Burial followed in Ball Family Cemetery, Milton.

He was born January 22, 1933 in Crown City, Ohio, a son of the late Cecil T. Stewart and Nellie Huffman Stewart Ball. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn "Katie" "Phoebe Ann" Lunsford Stewart, who passed on May 13, 2010; two sisters, Opal Cotton Adkins and Evelyn Turner Saunders; three brothers, Charlie, Ernest and Virgil Stewart; and stepfather, Otta Ball.

Mr. Stewart was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton, and the Lebanon Lodge 68 AF & AM, Milton, where he was a 50 year member. He was a retired Glass Blower at Blenko Glass.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, LeAnne and Rodman Lowe of Milton; two grandsons, Dylan Lowe and Hayden Lowe of Milton; two sisters-in-law, Betty Stewart of Ceredo and Frances Stewart of Missouri; one brother-in-law, Bill Saunders of Huntington; two stepsisters; one stepbrother and several nieces, nephews and caring family, friends and neighbors.
