Nicholas Boswell Brown and Claire Whelan are the newest additions to AXIS insurance’s underwriting team for the renewable energy industry. This was revealed through a statement made by the insurance company, which is a subsidiary of the insurance giant, AXIS Capital. The two underwriters will officially take up the roles in April. This appointment will expand AXIS’s renewable energy business in Latin America, Portugal, and Spain. With the pair bringing tons of insurance underwriting experience to the table, this step will ramp-up insurance business in the renewable energy market.
Boswell Brown has worked for companies such as Aon Corporation and Guy Carpenter. He acted as a facultative reinsurance broker at Aon for ten years in the Latin America region. As a broker, he has experience in evaluation and risk calculation for power generation industries. Whelan also brings extensive skills in underwriting from her previous roles. She has worked for Aviva PLC as an engineering underwriter and was later moved to a renewable energy underwriter position. She has over four years’ experience in the evaluation of renewables production risks. Whelan studied and lived in Spain where she started her career as an underwriting assistant for directors and officers (D&O) and commercial crime covers.
According to Richard Caroll, chair of renewable energy at AXIS, these appointments will increase the company’s business. “Hiring of Boswell Brown and Whelan will enable us to rapidly scale up our business in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, which are some of the fastest-growing parts of the renewable energy market,” Caroll said. “Nick brings considerable experience and insights on the evolving risk mitigation needs of renewable energy investors, project developers and asset owners in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, and will play a key role in driving new business production for us in those markets,” he added.
About Whelan, he explained, “Claire’s experience both living and studying in Spain will enable us to deliver better and more informed solutions for our brokers and their clients in that region.” AXIS Insurance covers risks that companies in the renewable energy sector may encounter.
